Photovoltaic park opened at FLUXUM Gernsheim
Another sustainable milestone for our GreenTech Park has been reached: The seven-hectare photovoltaic park was officially opened today. This makes it the largest PV park on a Merck site worldwide and at the same time the largest of its kind in the Groß-Gerau district.

Symbolically have Matthias Bürk, Head of Site Management at Merck Group, Marie-Luise Wolff, Chief Executive Officer of ENTEGA AG, and the district administrator of the district of Groß-Gerau, Thomas Will, the plant is now connected to the power grid. “The photovoltaic park is an important addition to our energy supply, for which we are increasingly relying on a mix of renewable energy sources,” said Matthias Bürk at the opening. “In doing so, we are pursuing our sustainability goals while keeping an eye on security of supply and profitability. Strategic partnerships at regional level, such as with ENTEGA, play a central role in this.”

The more than 12,000 built-in modules produce a peak output of around 7,000 kWp and can generate up to 7 gigawatt hours of electricity from sunlight annually. By way of comparison, the electricity produced corresponds to the average electricity requirement of around 2,000 households per year. In the future, the plant will be able to cover up to 15 percent of the current electricity demand at the Gernsheim site. The planned CO2 savings are around 3,500 tons per year.
