Focus on sustainable innovations: Bettina Stark-Watzinger visits FLUXUM Gernsheim
It was a special moment when the delegation led by the Federal Minister of Education and Research Bettina Stark-Watzinger GreenTech Park today FLUXUM Gernsheim visited. As Hessian state president of the FDP and member of the Bundestag for the Main-Taunus district, she came to the Gernsheim location for the first time to learn more about current examples of economic and innovative developments in her region. She was accompanied by an FDP delegation, including Bundestag member Dr. Thorsten Lieb and other regional FDP Free Democrats-Representatives.
Matthias Bürk, responsible for the sites in Darmstadt and Gernsheim at Merck, Stark-Watzinger gave an insight into the transformation of the Merck site in Gernsheim: “We have the vision of discovering new things and moving humanity forward. That's why we asked ourselves how we could use the location for this and founded GreenTech Park FLUXUM Gernsheim,” said Matthias Bürk.

Dr. Stefan Fandel, head of site development at FLUXUM Gernsheim, emphasized in addition to the further development steps of coming years, in particular the vision of making Gernsheim the place that stands for sustainable technologies throughout Europe.

In the second part of the visit, Stark-Watzinger met the start-ups based on FLUXUM Gernsheim and in a special location: In the middle of the hall and in front of Symbiotic Food's vertical farming facility, the young companies discussed current challenges faced by start-ups and made it clear what innovative strength is already emerging from Gernsheim today and thus strengthening the Rhine-Main region.
This impressed the Federal Minister and emphasized at the end of her visit: “We have great potential for GreenTech in Germany, which we can use and further expand. It will be decisive when it comes to the question of whether we can win the fight against environmental degradation and climate change. That is why initiatives such as FLUXUM are so important to build transfer bridges, i.e. to quickly transfer knowledge out of universities and into specific start-up companies. ”

Many thanks to Bettina Stark-Watzinger and the other guests for the visit and constructive exchange.
